What is Public Domain?
Public Domain, also referred to as P.D.,
is a term that refers to a film that is not protected under U.S. Copyright
laws and therefore you are free to use the footage in whole or part without
having to pay a license fee.
What are 3rd Party Rights?
Be aware of 3rd Party Rights that have
nothing to do with copyrights. These include "the right of privacy", "the
right of publicity" and "trademark" that are typically associated with
commercial advertising. In other words...if you are using Public Domain
footage to sell a product or service...do not!
What is the cost for stock footage?
Hollywood stock footage libraries charge
$20.00 per second (and more) depending on the quality and use of the film.

What are the additional costs?
There is a small fee for the initial research
and the screening copy (this fee is often waived with your paid order).
If applicable, customer pays transfer costs and shipping. All digital formats
are available.
What are licensing rights?
A licensing agreement or contract is created
and it will usually call for a royalty to be paid for the use of the rights.
What are Public Performance Rights?
Under The Copyright Act any viewing or
exhibition of a video in a public place (schools are considered public
places) must have Public Performance Rights. P.P.R. rights can be added
into the cost of the video at the time of purchase. Written confirmation
of permission must be obtained from the copyright holder and kept on file.
